Mary Lee Settle (1918-2005) is known for her Beulah Quintet of novels: Prisons, O Beulah Land, Know Nothing, The Scapegoat and The Killing Ground. Additional works include The Love Eaters, The Kiss of Kin, Celebration, Charley Bland and Blood Tie, which won a National Book Award in 1978. She was a founder of the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction
